Many people have wondered whether Jesus ate what is called the “Last Supper” on the evening when the Jews ate the Passover lambs, or if he ate his “Passover” meal on the evening before. Christians who are on the verge of backsliding, or attempting to hang out with ungodly friends, often try to cite Jesus’ own experience. In John 21, Jesus fed his disciples a breakfast of fish cooked over a fire along with bread. What would Jesus eat?

The key to eating like Jesus is making lunch your biggest meal and eat in as much of a relaxed atmosphere as possible. In his excellent book “What Would Jesus Eat?” Dr. Don Colbert does a great job of explaining what the Master would have eaten and drank during his day.

In the parallel in Luke 5.33, the question appears to be on the lips of Jesus’ critics who state: ‘John’s disciples often [Gk: pukna, frequently] fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.’ Matthew appears to be caught between Mark and Luke. And he continues to call us to his table to feast on who he is and learn more about him through his Word.

When one believes Jesus, it is as if they are figuratively “eating” His flesh and “drinking” His blood. ... People often dipped chunks of bread into such a mixture. Eat dinner as early in the evening as possible. Jesus makes it clear that He does not mean that one must literally eat His flesh and drink His blood in v 63: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.

The question arises because there seems to be a contradiction between what Matthew, Mark and Luke say, and what the Gospel of John tells us.

Jesus ate broiled fish to prove he was not a ghost after the resurrection. There is some truth to that. The last recorded meal he was identified as eating himself is mentioned in Luke 24:42-43.

Jesus followers clearly did eat meat, and expanded their range of meat eating early in the history of the church. Good News Translation Some people said to Jesus, "The disciples of John fast frequently and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but your disciples eat and drink."

Colbert notes that the breads of Jesus’s time were coarse wholegrain breads, which would be likely to go rancid and mouldy if not eaten daily. A non-vegetarian diet would absolutely have been the norm for Jews in those days, and there is certainly no indication that Jesus did not eat meat. Eat a Light Dinner at 4 p.m.: Your digestive system should not have to work on overdrive when you should be sleeping.
