The Embassy of the United States of America in Baghdad is the diplomatic mission of the United States of America in the Republic of Iraq.Ambassador Matthew Tueller is currently the Chief of Mission.. At 104 acres (42 ha), it is the largest and most expensive embassy in the world, and is nearly as large as Vatican City. The Marine Corps has established about two dozen new security guard detachments, and beefed up 117 others, as part of a multifaceted plan to protect U.S. embassies and consulates. Since the terrorist attack in Benghazi in 2012, the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group created the Marine Security Guard Security Augmentation Unit (MSAU). MEGA is open to all Marines who served honorably in the Marine Security Guard program at all levels.

According to the United States Marine Corps, no other billet in the Marines, or any service, can live up to the importance of Marine Security Guard duty.

The primary mission of MSAU is to provide random/periodic augmentation to Marine Security Guard Detachments pre-crises and during increased threat situations. Marine Security Guards provide security at about 125 U.S. embassies and consulates around the globe.
